NO Talking by Andrew Clements
NO Talking is about a boy in fifth grade-Dave Packer . In a homework assignment , Dave reads about a man named Gandhi. Gandhi was silent for one day a week. This caught Dave's interest and he decided to give it a try. But when he hears a girl, Lynsey , talks and talks and talks , he shouts a nasty comment. So like that a challenge starts. Who can talk less for two days? The boys or the girls? During the contest everybody is in the lunch room is silent . That amazes the principle because she usually has to use a bull horn to quiet everybody down . Some teachers like the music teacher, don't approve of the little "game". While others like the language teacher, are so fascinated that he wants to write a book on it. Eventually the challenge ends in a draw. A tie. And the fifth graders are free to talk again! ages 8+

The Kite Fighters by Linda Sue Park
The book The Kite Fighters takes place in Korea. It is about a boy named Young-sup Lee who loved to fly kites more than playing with any other toy or invention! He wanted nothing more than to win a kite contest. The New Year kite competition coming soon. Young-sup and his older brother Kee-sup enter it. The brothers are flying for first place despite the fact that hundreds of children are entering it. It is tradition that the elder heir must come in first and the younger in second.
While practicing for the contest, the two brothers cross paths with the young king of Korea. The king admires Young-sup's skill of flying a kite and asks the two brothers to make him one. Kee-sup who is a better artist than any one in the family comes up with many designs for the soon-to-be king's kite, but he can't find the right design! Then his father offers an idea and everybody agrees that it is perfect. Soon the kite is finished and the two brothers present the kite to the king. He loved the red and gold dragon kite. Then he told them he was thinking about entering the kite contest. But he said he would not for two reasons. One was because he wasn't very good yet. The second reason was because if he entered it, the other competitors would let him win because he was king. So he had Young-sup enter for him. In the end Young-sup reached his life long dream and won the contest!
