NO Talking by Andrew Clements

NO Talking is about a boy in fifth grade-Dave Packer .  In a homework assignment , Dave reads about a man named Gandhi.  Gandhi was silent for one day a week.  This caught Dave's interest and he decided to give it a try.  But when he hears a girl, Lynsey , talks and talks and talks , he shouts a nasty comment.  So like that a challenge starts.  Who can talk less for two days?  The boys or the girls?  During the contest everybody is in the lunch room is silent .  That amazes the principle because she usually  has to use a bull horn to quiet everybody down .  Some teachers like the music teacher, don't approve of the little "game".  While others like the language teacher, are so fascinated that he wants to write a book on it.  Eventually the challenge ends in a draw.  A tie. And the fifth graders are free to talk again! ages 8+
